Palestine and Syria - both neighboring countries, have been undergoing human rights atrocities for a long time. Both countries have experienced war crimes. Palestinians and Syrians know what it is like to have their families murdered, to be displaced, to be held under detention indefinitely.

Jehad Abusalim is from Gaza, Palestine where he lived for most of his life. In Gaza, Jehad finished his undergraduate degrees in administration and Hebrew language from Al-Azhar and the Islamic Universities. He volunteered and worked with a number of youth groups, initiatives, and civil society organizations in fields related to youth and women empowerment, popular education, Palestinian national reconciliation, BDS, and advocacy against the siege on Gaza. His writings appeared in al-Jazeera English, Mondoweiss, and Palestine Square, and he recently contributed to a book on Gaza titled "Gaza As Metaphor." Jehad is currently a PhD student at the History and Hebrew and Judaic Studies joint program at NYU, where he studies Arab and Palestinian intellectual history in the first half of the twentieth century. He focuses on intellectual and journalistic writing in Arabic about the Jewish question and the Zionist project.
Loubna Mrie is a Syrian activist who participated in the initial stages of the revolution. She later became a photojournalist with Reuters based in Aleppo, where she covered the ongoing conflict in the Idlib, Aleppo, Latakia, and Hama governorates. Originally from the Syrian coastal city of Jableh, she is currently based in New York City where she is completing an MA at NYU. Her work has been published in the Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, the New Republic, among other publications.
