The Palestine Solidarity Alliance has hosted its first official conversation in correlation to our CUNY Wide Divestment Campaign on why CUNY has to divest from Israeli apartheid and war crimes. Both Lamis Deek and Eran Efrati each discussed the importance of BDS to the struggle for justice, in addition to why everyone needs to get involved.

Lamis Deek is a Palestinian Human Rights Attorney and Litigator based in New York whose diverse experience spans a wide range of domestic and international matters. She has litigated Palestinian, Arab and Muslim civil rights and criminal defense issues ranging from Free Speech and Free Worship to State Repression and defended those accused of trumped-up Terrorism charges. Her international work focuses on investigation, anti-corruption, and development of multi-front strategies to resolve complex matters and enforce human rights principles where state systems fail. Lamis has been an advocate for Palestinian, Arab and Muslim rights for nearly two decades and has initiated and co-led numerous national organizing formations and projects. She regularly lectures on a broad range of issues from Palestine and its ongoing Colonization to Islamophobia, Racism, and classism in law enforcement, government surveillance and militarization of POC, Muslim, Arab and Palestinian Communities. Lamis Deek is a member of the National Lawyers Guild, a long- time member of Al-Awda-NY- the Palestinian Right to Return Coalition- and is an advisor to CAIR-NY and other Non-Profit Organizations, domestic and international.

Eran Efrati is the executive director of RAIA-https://www.facebook.com/researchingthealliance/?ref=bookmarks (Researching the American-Israeli Alliance), an investigative researcher into the Israeli military, and former director of ICAHD-USA and currently a Jewish Voice for Peace Board member. He formerly served as the chief researcher of Breaking the Silence, where he collected testimonies from hundreds of IDF soldiers about their activities. He has worked with the International Criminal Court and participated in both independent and UN investigations into Israeli military operations. His investigative reports have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Guardian, among others. Today his research is focused on international military and police partnerships between the United States and Israel.
