FAQ
DON’T PALESTINIANS ENGAGE IN VIOLENCE AS WELL?/BUT WHAT ABOUT HAMAS?
While both Palestinians and Israelis have been violent towards each other, there is no moral symmetry between the violence committed on behalf of the occupier and that committed on behalf of the occupied. Israel is the occupier in this case and has used its advanced military and economy to occupy Palestinian land and inflict injustices against stateless Palestinian people. In South Africa, the ANC also used violence in its struggle against apartheid. Although this recognition does not excuse violence, violence on behalf of some individuals cannot invalidate Palestinian freedom and justice, nor justify Israel’s practice of collective punishment.
Do you acknowledge Israel’s right to exist?
We are against occupation of indigenous peoples. The main goals that we support are the same ones outlined by Palestinians society: the right to not live under occupation, the right to equality, and the right of indigenous people to return to the homeland which they were expelled from.
Are you anti-Semitic?
We are anti-Zionist, which is substantially different from anti-Semitism. We strongly condemn anti-Semitism, which is contrary to the principles of equality, justice, and human rights for which we are calling for. We also understand that many Jews are victims of Zionism, as many of them do actually acknowledge that Zionism is a settler-colonial political project that has exploited their religion.
